Immunization is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others against infectious diseases.  Vaccines are the first line of defense against diseases such as polio, measles, mumps, rubella, influenza, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and COVID-19.  Vaccines in the United States today are considered the safest and most effective in history.

The Florida Department of Health in Highlands County (DOH-Highlands) protects the health and safety of all residents by offering immunization services and education to the public on the importance of vaccines. Childhood, adult, and travel vaccines are available.

Immunizations (shots) prevent disease in those who receive them and protect those who come into contact with others who are not vaccinated.  Vaccines reduce the risk of infection by working with the body's natural defenses to help it safely develop immunitiy to diseases.
