HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. When this virus enters the body, it infects parts of the immune system, weakening the body's defenses. HIV lives in four main body fluids: blood, semen, vaginal fluid, and breastmilk. Any unprotected exposure to these fluids puts you at risk of getting HIV. Though many treatments exist for HIV infections, there is still no cure.

The Florida Department of Health strives to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in our communities by providing confidential testing and referrals to treatment and prevention services, along with resources for those who are infected and/or impacted by this epidemic. The main goal is to increase public knowledge and awareness of HIV/AIDS, promote HIV testing, and connect clients to the best treatment and care.
